AFTER ANDERLECHT’S CYRIAC LACED UP IN ODD NIKE MERCURIAL SUPERFLY IV COLOURWAYS LAST NIGHT AT THE EMIRATES WE’VE COMPILED A LIST OF THE TOP TEN PLAYERS TO ADOPT THE TREND.
It’s a unique way of standing out, there’s no questioning that, however you might have to dodge the extra heavy tackle every now and again for it. Some players have limited the trait to mixing up colourways whereas others mix up their silos completely. Either way, it’s an expensive decision. Here’s our top ten odd boot combos.
Gohi Bi Cyriac – Gohi Bi Cyriac started last night for the Belgium champions Anderlecht wearing an unusual colour combo, Gohi is a Superfly wearer, but last night he was not content with just wearing a standard pair of Superflys, oh no. Instead we saw him combine the “HyperPunch/Gold/Black” colourway with the latest “Laser Orange/White/Black” colourway.
Allan Marques Loureiro – Going back a couple years and we saw Allan Marques Loureiro rock a pair of Nike Hypervenoms, however this time we saw a slight change from the Udinese man. Allan decided he would utilise the colour range Nike offered at the time, with him wearing the “Neo Lime/Black” Hypervenom, supported with the “Purple/Volt” colourway. This combo was only seen once by Allan in a game against Inter Milan.
Zhang Chengdong – Zhang of Beijing Guo’an decided to give the popular Nike CTR360 Maestri III a twist, wearing the launch colourway of the CTR360 supported with the “White/Volt/Green” colourway. Why? We’ve no idea.
Yannick Bolasie – Mr Bolasie is always one to watch closely and in last year’s FA Cup 3rd round game against Stoke City, we saw Yannick sporting a very unmatchable combo. Bolasie shook things up by wearing a first generation Nike Mercurial Vapor in the cinder colourway, supported by the mango Nike Mercurial Vapor VII. Maybe the Palace winger was in mid change at half time, and simply didn’t have time to change the other shoe or maybe he just felt like it.
Djibril Cisse – The Frenchman was seen sporting an odd pair of old f50.7’s in the friendly game for France against England. All eyes were on Beckham bagging his 100th cap but that didn’t stop Cisse trying to steal some of the limelight with a carefully selected colour combo to co-ordinate with ‘Les Bleus’ kit.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto – Always one to cause a stir, Assou-Ekotto, now of Under Armour, was seen using two completely different models of boot in an f50/Predator match up. This was a combination of speed and power coming together in all the wrong ways. Didn’t catch on though…
Rigobert Song – The man who started it all. For the 1998 World Cup Rigobert Song decided he’d had enough of all this matching boot nonsense and lined up Cameroon’s final group game against Chile in two different coloured PUMA king boots. A bright yellow boo combined with a red kings, coming together to perfectly compliment the Cameroon kit. Legend.
Matheus – Dnipro’s Brazilian forward was seen last season in the Europa League against Spurs wearing a odd pair of f50s to create a monochrome vibe. One black, one white but swapping the laces over for a decent finishing touch.
Feng Renliang – Feng was seen repping a combo of the launch colourway Nike CTR 360 II, and a Nike Mercurial Vapor 7 “dark obsidian/white/cool mint”, whilst playing for Shanghai Shenhua in the Chinese Super League, perhaps Feng’s right foot isn’t too good at controlling the ball? Hence the reason for choosing the CTR. Maybe his left leg is slow, we’re brainstorming here. Who knows.
Cheik Tiote – The combative Ivorian midfielder was seen wearing a pair of Nike Tiempo Elites against Stoke City, however, you had to pay close attention to Tiote’s boots, as it really was a case of spot the difference. Cheik Tiote had decided to combine the Tiempo Elite with two colourways that were only different by the colour of the swoosh on the boot.
